Privacy Policy
The Board is a household coordination app for chores, routines, calendars, and rewards. This policy explains what data it handles and why.
The short version: local-first by default
For most families, The Board keeps everything on your own device and transmits nothing. In that mode we collect no personal data at all — there is no account, no server copy, and nothing for us to see, share, or lose.
Data only leaves your device if you turn on multi-device sync (an optional feature; a paid plan is planned but not yet available). Everything below about collection applies only once sync is on.
What we collect (only with sync on)
- Family members' first names and an avatar colour
- Chores, schedules, calendar events, points, and rewards you enter
- Your household's country and region (used for time zones)
- The account owner's email address (for recovery and billing)
We practise data minimisation: first names and a colour, not full identities. We do notrun advertising, use third-party analytics on your family's data, or sell or share it.
Children's data (COPPA)
The Board is designed to be used by children, including young and pre-reading children. Because of that we take specific care:
- There are no individual child accounts, and we never ask a child for an email or password.
- The account holder is an adult, identified by the owner email.
- No advertising, no third-party analytics, no data sharing.
- A child's data will only ever leave the device after an adult enables and pays for sync — so the parental-consent step and the payment step are designed to be the same event. (Sync billing is not yet available.)
A parent can review their household's data (via Download backup) and delete it entirely at any time (via Delete this board) — see “Your rights and choices” below.
Where data is stored
When sync is on, data is stored using Supabase (a hosted Postgres provider) acting as our processor. Data residency region: to be confirmed before launch. Access is restricted to the household's own authenticated devices.
How long we keep it
On the free tier, resolved history (completed and decided items) is kept for about 30 days; balances are preserved via periodic snapshots. Deleted items are purged permanently after a 60-day grace period. A household that goes unused for a year is deleted automatically after a warning to the owner email.
Your rights and choices
- Export: download a complete copy of your board at any time from Manage → Backup → Download backup. This works even in local-only mode, because the data lives on your device.
- Delete: permanently delete your entire household, on every device, from Manage → Delete this board.
- Access & correction:you can view and edit all of your family's data directly in the app.
For local-only households we hold nothing, so an export or deletion request is served by the device itself using the controls above.
Contact
A dedicated privacy contact address will be published here before launch. Until then, account-related requests can be made through the in-app controls above.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page as the product and its compliance review progress, and note the effective date once counsel has reviewed it.
